Hydorgen in the power generation

Hydrogen is an energy vector that can lead the decarbonization path to 2050. Green hydrogen, which Europe wants to concentrate on, is produced from renewable electricity and therefore represents a CO2-free fuel along the supply chain. Hydrogen can be employed in various sectors, from industry, where it is used as both as an energy source and as a feedstock, to heavy transports, from residential heating to electricity generation.

Italian and European objectives

The regulatory framework is laying the foundations for the future technology development and sets very ambitious targets for the penetration of hydrogen in the power consumption. The EU plans to install an electrolysis capacity from renewable energy sources of 40 GW with hydrogen production of up to 10 million tons and investments of up to € 458 billion by 2030, to implement it in all society sectors. Italy is also proceeding in this direction and plans to install 5 GW of electrolysis and invest around 10 billion euros by 2030.

Caterpillar products for hydrogen

CGT is convinced that hydrogen will be a fundamental energy source in the future and, in addition, it is suitable to be used in the solutions it already offers. As a matter of fact Caterpillar is already able to offer generator solutions powered with a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen up to 25%. Caterpillar has been studying the integration of hydrogen in its technological solutions for 20 years and will keep on doing so, until it will present its range of generating sets able to operate being powered 100% by this gas. CGT continues to invest in technological solutions to serve customers by keeping up with the evolutions of the energy sector, in order to be a 360 °energy partner and meet the customers' greenhouse gas reduction objectives.
